Lafayette LA

The Hub City

Lafayette, LA

As “The Heart of Cajun Country,” Lafayette LA holds deep roots that have helped it become the thriving hub it is today. The vicinity was originally inhabited by the Attakapas Native Americans. When French colonists settled the trading post along the Vermilion River, the cultures intermingled to create what we now know as Cajun culture.
While initially named Petit Manchac, the area was renamed in 1884 after General Lafayette who fought alongside the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Today, Lafayette is home to more than 126,000 citizens, making it the fourth-largest city in the state of Louisiana. Lafayette offers residents and visitors an unrivaled mix of culture, sports, and history.
