The Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP), a Federal regulation, went into effect on April 22, 2010. RRP requires renovation and painting contractors and other trades who work in pre-1978 housing in Louisiana and who might disturb painted surfaces to become Lead Certified Renovators. This rule covers a variety of jobs including: remodeling, renovation, painting, window replacement, electrical work, plumbing, heating & air-conditioning, demolition and services provided by trades such as carpenters, electricians and handymen. RRP also applies to people working for rental property owners, schools, day cares, non-profits and government agencies in Louisiana.
When surfaces with lead paint are disturbed, particles of metal and dust merge and become a "lead-containing" dust which can severely affect people's health (especially pregnant women and children). There is NO safe level of lead for your body.
